Covance offers carbendazim analysis
In a letter to the Juice Products Association on Monday, January 9, the Food and Drug Association (FDA) informed the industry of their findings related to the detection of the fungicide, carbendazim, in orange juice.

Carbendazim has been detected in some orange juice-derived products at very low ppb levels. The source of the fungicide appears to be juice imported from Brazil. Since carbendazim is not registered for use in the US and there is no import tolerance, residues are illegal. Carbendazim can originate from application of three different fungicides:
- carbendazim
- benomyl
- thiophanate-methyl
Covance recently developed a new large multiresidue method which tests for both carbendazim and thiophanate-methyl.
